Jonathan Edwards conference in Budapest
With the Reformed Church of Hungary, the Jonathan Edwards Center is co-sponsoring a very exciting conference in Budapest on May 8-9 2007, Jonathan Edwards in Europe. The conference is free and open to the public.
Worldwide scholarship and general interest in Edwards is now at an all-time high. With the burgeoning of online sources and exchanges, there is an untold wealth of commentary on Edwards at the learned and popular levels.
This is just as much the case in Europe as it is in the United States. Scholars from all over Europe, including Hungary, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands, to name a few, are beginning to study Edwards as never before. This proliferation is especially notable as European scholarship on Edwards often brings a fresh perspective to the material that is welcome and unique.
The conference, “Jonathan Edwards in Europe,” is meant to formally acknowledge and further encourage this important dialogue about Edwards in Europe. This meeting will bring European scholars interested in Edwards together with their American counterparts. Presentations and discussions will provide opportunities for scholars, clergy, and members of the general public to interact and to learn about Edwards, his life, times, and legacy, in American, transatlantic, and global contexts.
The conference is open to the public, and hosted by Bishop Istvan Szabo of the Dunamellék District in the Reformed Church of Hungary and Professor of Systematic Theology at the Reformed Theological Academy, Pápa, Hungary.
There will be eight papers given by leading Jonathan Edwards scholars, each followed by a respondent and open discussion from the audience.
The conference will be conducted in English.
