How to Cite Texts in the Works of Jonathan Edwards Online
1. Works of Jonathan Edwards, vols. 1-26 (Yale Univ. Press, 1957-2008).
Initial citations of each volume within this series should include complete bibliographical information, e.g. Works of Jonathan Edwards, Volume 1, Freedom of the Will, ed. Paul Ramsey (New Haven, Yale University Press, 1957, 100. For subsequent citations, our edition style is to use the abbreviation “WJE” followed by the volume number and page number, e.g. WJE 1:100.
For volumes with multiple texts, include the specific text you are citing in italics, e.g. Faithful Narrative, in Works of Jonathan Edwards, Volume 4, Great Awakening, ed. C.C. Goen (New Haven Yale University Press, 1970), 144; or Faithful Narrative, in WJE 4:144.

Acession Date
Because the texts presented online are revised periodically, the date on which users accessed the data should be included, e.g. 270. Sermon on I Cor. 11:29 (Jan. 1733), accessed Mar. 15, 2009.
If a substantial number of texts are cited, the user could have a note mentioning the inclusive dates in which all the texts cited were accessed, thereby eliminating the need to date each citation.
